The area is well known as the Jurassic or Dinosaur coast.

Thomas Hardy (novelist and poet) made reference to West Bay as Port Bredy in some of his books.

The TV series River Cottage was filmed in the area.
West Bay Harbour itself was renamed Bridehaven. In the series, Harbour Lights, starring Nick Berry.
